America: L-1 Intra-company Transferee

To be eligible for an Intra-company Transferee (Expat) visa you need to have been employed for at least one year out of the past three years by a company outside the USA. This visa is available for managers, executives and specialists. It is initially valid for one year for new US companies and three years for US companies that exist for longer than one year. After the initial validity period , the visa can be renewed for up to seven years. This visa may lead to a Green Card. Spouses and unmarried dependent children up to 21 years of age receive student or work visas.

Requirements for Intra-company Transferee (Expat)
The transferee must:

• be employed in an executive or managerial position, or have specialized knowledge
• have held that position for one continuous year in the past three years
• be transferring to US to open a new office, or fill an executive or specialist position in an existing office
• supervise subordinate managers
• be a bona fide non-immigrant.
