Australia: Partner visa
Partner visas are available for applicants who can be sponsored by a direct relative or interdependent partner in Australia. You may be sponsored in this category if you are a spouse, fiancé(e), or an opposite or same-sex partner.
In order to qualify for a spousal visa, you must be married or in a de facto relationship with your partner. As a fiancé(e) you must be living outside Australia and wish to marry your partner in Australia within 9 months after your arrival; at that time, you may apply for a spousal visa. Interdependent relationships include, but are not restricted to, same sex couples.
Partner migration is generally a 2-stage process. In most cases, you will be given a temporary visa which allows you to stay in Australia for 2 years initially. If you continue to meet all requirements, you will be granted a permanent visa.
You must satisfy the following basic criteria:
1. The sponsor must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
2. You must have a genuine & continuing relationship with the sponsor.
Migrants in this category do not have to take a test for skills or language proficiency.
If you do not qualify for the above-mentioned sponsorship programmes and you are a skilled worker with close family members in Australia, you might qualify under the skilled worker visa programme.
